Wedding photography is one of the most important roles that will occur at your wedding. It is also the best way you can preserve those wedding memories forever. You want to make sure the photographer will do a great job, so selecting the perfect one is important.
If you have to cut down on what you spend in your wedding, this is not the place to slash your costs. You want to make sure that you get the best wedding pictures possible and that your photographer is a professional.

ng a wedding? Whether you’re a wedding planning pro or a do-it-yourself bride, I know one thing you don’t: you aren’t using the web enough.
The web has become the dominant way to shop for electronics, travel, cars, housing, even education. But you can just as easily use the web to find caterers, event halls, dressmakers, DJs, photographers, videographers–even a wedding planner if you decide to take a break from doing it all yourself.
Here’s how the web helps you plan a wedding:
Local search. No, you don’t have to sort through vendors from here to Timbuktu. Local search technology now makes finding someone downtown as easy as finding someone anywhere. If you use Google, you only have to enter a place name along with your keyword to get a list of local businesses. Try “wedding planner fargo” (without the quotes) and see for yourself.
Real people. The people you are buying from online aren’t “virtual.” They’re as real as the people you’d meet in person. In fact, especially with local business, the website is just a first contact. You can always call them up or arrange to meet in person.
Dedicated wedding information websites. There are now websites solely devoted not just to planning a wedding, but to catering, wedding cakes, even dying shoes for weddings. These same websites often have directories of wedding vendors arranged by location.
Message boards and customer reviews. You wouldn’t buy a book on Amazon without reading a review a customer had left. Now you don’t have to buy decorations that way, either.
Web Wedding Planning Alternatives
The web has a lot of advantages over most other ways of discovering and evaluating wedding vendors. Just look at what your other options are:
Recommendations from friends and colleagues. How much do your friends and colleagues really know about wedding planning? Very often, one person’s idea of wedding elegance is any sane person’s idea of bad, bad taste. Just look at anyone’s wedding pictures. You can’t trust this decision to your friends. This is your big day. It deserves a little research.
Bridal fairs. If the vendors at bridal fairs were so great, why would they be trawling for business? Do you want an in-demand wedding vendor, or one who has to set up a booth and hand out free samples?
Yellow pages. I remember the time my mother used the Yellow Pages to find a contractor to install some new doors. During the holiday season, the draft would blow out the candles in the window if they weren’t electric. Anyone can get in the yellow pages–and believe me, anyone does.
Web Wedding Planning Advantages
Selection. No offline source will ever have as many options, whether it’s songs for the wedding reception or fabrics for the gowns.
Ready information. As soon as you see an option you’d like to consider, you can find out all you’d ever like to know as easily as copying and pasting into Google.
It’s All in Writing. By their very nature, websites put a lot of information in writing. The written policies regarding shipping, warranties (if any), returns, and service will almost always be easy to access. (Hint: look for links to policies at the bottom of each web page.) The fact that everything is written down gives the vendor much less wiggle room to change the terms of the deal. Almost as good as the paper trail is the photograph trail–at least when it comes to merchandise. Save any relevant images along with the text.
Better Business Bureau’s Convenient BBBOnline. On the web, it’s easy to check for Better Business Bureau membership. The site should have the BBBOnline logo displayed prominently on the order page. Click on the logo to be taken to the BBB.org profile for that business. The BBB page should say that business is a member in good standing. With the BBBOnline, the Bureau’s ecommerce program, you can dispute a sale without having to go to the local Bureau where the store is headquartered.
In short, the web makes it much easier to get a perfect wedding.

When compared to traditional photo processing, digital photo printing has many different advantages. The main benefit is that you are in complete control of how the finished image will look. This is something that traditional methods just can’t do, and the level of customization for your pictures is much higher when you are using digital photo printing. In order to get the absolute best results, there are a few things that you can do to your images, before you get them printed.
Adjust Color Settings - Unlike a traditional camera that will produce images that are sometimes too dark, when you are working with a digital file, you have the opportunity to fix any issues ahead of time. You’ll need to get a digital photo editor in order to edit your images, but there are many free applications online that are very powerful. Once you have that application installed, you can open your pictures and see what needs to be done.
If the image is too dark, or the colors don’t look quite right, this can easily be modified. The majority of photo editing applications will include an option that will let you adjust the color settings for any image. Find that option and then you can make small changes to the photo until you are satisfied. This step will produce superior digital photo printing results, and it’s very easy to do. You can change colors, fix hues and reduce or enhance saturation to either lighten or darken a photo.
Crop Images - Whether a photo is too large, or you weren’t happy with the way part of the picture turned out, you can use your photo editing software to crop the image before sending it in for digital photo printing. You’ll need to open the picture in your photo editor, and then use the crop tool to preserve the part of the image you like. Save this file under a new name so that you can keep your original photo intact.
Fix Problems - Even the best photographers end up with small issues in their pictures, such as red-eye or lens flares. With digital photo editing software, you can easily remove these problems or at the very least, reduce them. Check to see if your editing application includes an automatic fix for these problems, or experiment with your photo on your own to remove these issues before you send it in to a free online photo album site for digital photo printing. Always keep a copy of your original photo safe so that you can undo any effects you do not like.
Adding Borders - Last but not least, you can add extra borders and special effects to your images before getting digital photo printing. Try experimenting with your software to see how you can enhance your images. Once you have the necessary special effects applied, save the file under a new name and then you can submit it for printing. This allows you to have greater control over your photos and it is a lot more fun.

You only have one shot at perfect pictures. If you choose the wrong photographer, your once-in-a-lifetime wedding pictures can be lost forever. Here are some tips for finding a great wedding photographer:
1. How experienced is this photographer? Does he specialize in wedding photography? While everyone needs to start somewhere, do you really want one to begin with your wedding, no matter how good the price? Choose a photographer who not only has experience with wedding photography, but who also can show you examples of his or her work at previous weddings.
2. What is the style of the photographer? Do his sample shots look the way you want your wedding photos to look? Look for a great mix of styles, from formal and posed to more casual and relaxed styles. Look for how the photographer uses light in the pictures. And look for a photographer who takes shots that you like.
3. Ask the photographer if he’s the one who will be handing your wedding personally or if he plans to send a staff photographer. You have the right to know who you’re going to be paying for. Asking in advance eliminates nasty surprises.
4. Do you like the photographer? If he’s nasty or bossy or has a trait you don’t care for, his presence - and direction for posed shots - can ruin your otherwise perfect day. There are plenty of photographers; pick one you can live with.
5. How does he dress? Is he well-groomed? And what does he intend to wear to the wedding? Especially if you have a dress code at the wedding venue, you need to be certain your photographer presents a certain appearance.
6. How expensive is this photographer? You don’t have to choose the cheapest photographer, and probably should not, but you want someone in your price range. Get an idea of all his prices, including any reordered packages. And find out how long he keeps negatives. You may want to order more in five years.
7. How prompt is this photographer? How quickly will they get the proofs, pictures and albums back? Does he supply electronic media as well, or just printed photos?
8. Look carefully at the offered packages and a la carte deals. Are they the wedding photos you really want, or do you think you can do better with a different plan? Try to arrange a deal if you don’t like any packages. If you’re making a large order, your photographer should work with you.
9. How much time will he take photographing you and the wedding party at the event? You don’t want someone who will take too few shots, but you also don’t want to spend your entire wedding day in front of a camera. Ask how many different shots he takes on average as well.
10. Does the contract make sense to you? It should be clear, with everything addressed you’ve discussed with the photographer. You should feel that it’s fair. Make sure deposits and cancellations are spelled out, as well as the photographer’s not showing up. If you don’t understand it, talk to a lawyer. This can be a very big investment, and you don’t want to find yourself in a legal bind over it.

12. Make sure you get references from previous clients, from the Better Business Bureau, from the Chamber of Commerce. Ask around at reception halls and churches the wedding photographer has worked at to see what they think. Is he a member of the Professional Photographers of America or another professional organization?
And one last thing: besides the wedding photographer, you really should have disposable cameras on the tables. You never know what’s going to happen: the photographer not showing up, or being busy photographing the wedding party while Uncle Milt is doing that weird thing with his nose. Sometimes the photos taken by guests become the most treasured keepsakes from your wedding.
